REN Skincare | Evercalm Campaign

CGI Delivers Calm In The Midst of Chaos

Released in full bloom, on the streets of New York City and Los Angeles, the digital and print displays featured CGI product renders and animations, highlighting the organic elements of REN's Evercalm skincare line. In the animation, camellia flowers and blackcurrant -antioxidant ingredients in the facial cream - take shape and unravel in a smooth, organic flow that both entrances and calms passersby as the rush of the urban environment surrounds them.

Both agency and brand felt it was important to embody the natural and simple aesthetic of clean skincare, so great time, detail, and effort went into a special 3D scanning process to bring the animation to life.

Behind the Scenes | 3D Scanning

In order to achieve a high level of photorealism, the Steelworks team used a unique process involving 3D scanning of real camellia and blackcurrant. Utilizing Agisoft Metashape technology, the organic ingredients were shot on a 360° rotating stand. The imaging was then converted into millions of data points, which helped to form an accurate 3D photogrammetric model. From there, our artists fine tuned the texture, color, and lighting of the model and animated it using Cinema 4D. The output was a beautiful animation that matched the look and feel of the 20-year old clean skincare brand.

Because the 3D assets were created in adaptable layers, REN and Activista were able to repurpose and reformat the assets to create engaging social campaign animations. The application across multiple channels proved the value and versatility in taking a 3D and 360 approach to the project.
